Course Description
Are you seeking a spiritual formation journey that aligns with God’s will for diverse, multicultural worship and joy (as described in Revelation 7:9)? If so, consider expanding your spiritual practices to include cultures and voices that differ from your own. The Cultural Practices in Spiritual Formation course will broaden your knowledge and imagination by sharing stories and examples of formation from a variety of cultures and communities. Through this course, you will explore the significance of story, land, and creation in Native American Spiritual Formation, learn the importance of communal worship and authenticity in African American Spiritual Formation, and understand the value of humility, suffering, and meditation in Asian American Spiritual Formation, among other topics. This course, led by Rev. Dr. Laura Murray, ordained pastor, author, and certified spiritual director, aims to foster curiosity and encourage you to recognize new voices that should be included in your understanding of spiritual formation, thus helping you reflect the heart of God better in your own life.
*“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,” (Revelation 7:9)
Please note: This course is the recommended second course in the Spiritual Formation Certificate Program.
